Be part of the global giving movement and discover how you can come together to celebrate the spirit of giving!

It’s the time of the year again! Giving Week 2018 is back from 27 November – 5 December, and there are so many different ways to give back and have fun at the same time. Here are 5 ways you can take part in Giving Week!

1. Dine with purpose

Macs

Remember the good ol’ days queuing for Hello Kitty dolls to add to our growing collection? Those days may be over but we all have cravings to satisfy, and sometimes that brings us to MacDonald’s! This November, MacDonald’s is supporting Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Singapore with the sale of these classic stripey socks at $10/pair.

All nett proceeds from the socks go towards supporting sick children and their families under RMHC. Grab* your pair and enjoy a cup of Strawberry Sundae on us now!

*Socks are sold at all MacDonald’s outlets except institutional stores, RWS, IFLY, LIDO and Gardens By the Bay.

2. Shop with someone in Mind

Cloud, lemon, leaf, sun – what do these things have in common?

Social enterprise and jeweller, The Mindful Company believes that behind every product is a story worth telling. Each of these symbols in their What’s Important Series are inspired by the lives of beneficiaries from the Singapore Association for Mental Health’s (SAMH) Youth Reach programme. $10 from the sale of every bracelet will go towards supporting the organisation’s mental health programmes for youth.

Sun is a reminder that it’s never too late to start new beginnings. Every morning is an opportunity to celebrate a new day, a new chapter, a new perspective.

Each morning, I try to remind myself that I want to make a difference and do something positive that helps the community

3. Before the festive shopping starts…

clothes drive

December is a time of festive shopping but do you have enough space in your wardrobe? Why not look through your pre-loved items and donate some of them at the Zalora x The Salvation Army’s Clothes Donation Drive happening this Giving Week!

The donation drive can be found at the following locations:

Sports Hub: 1st December

Shopaholics alert: For every three pieces dropped off, you will receive an 18% Zalora discount voucher*!

*T&Cs apply. No minimum purchase. Limited to 1 use per code. Only applicable on products sold by ZALORA in apparel, bags & shoes category.

4. Give a gift of joy

If you’re thinking of doing some Christmas shopping for friends and family, drop by Giving Week’s The Good Hub at the trendy Club Street! Be spoilt for choice at the booths set up by non-profits and social enterprises featuring Christmas goodies such as log cakes by APSN, cookies by Beyond Social Services and merchandise by Habitat for HumanityCPASCat Welfare Society and more. Shopping for presents for our loved ones is a nice gesture, but what’s even better is giving them a gift with a meaning behind it. The sale of these items goes towards supporting the beneficiaries of these non-profits and social enterprises.

Life Sized Jenga edit

Feeling a little more adventurous? If you would like to give to someone without bringing something home, there’s just the activity for you! For a mere $3, decorate your very own block that is part of a life-size Jenga tower in support of Persons With Disabilities (PWDs).

Initiated by social enterprise, Society Staples, Jenga play has been found to bring about many benefits for PWDs such as building up motor functioning, simulating curiosity and facilitating social integration. At the end of Giving Week, this Jenga tower will be gifted to Metta Welfare Association.

5. Come on down to The Good Hubs and soak up the festive mood

Sports Hub and the area around will be transformed into a festive paradise lined with Christmas Trees or “Chari Trees” in our giving lingo because the trees have been adopted by corporates in support of charity. The official lighting up ceremony will be happening on 1st December at 7pm. Come down to watch the trees light up, snap some pictures and enjoy performances such as carolling and dance performances by beneficiaries and inclusive groups.

In line with the festive spirit, the Santa Run will be held here on 2nd December. Registration fees from the run will go towards granting the wishes of children with life-threatening conditions under Make a Wish Foundation.

Other activities includes a chance for children to express their creativity and design their very own Disney on Ice Christmas sock at the Sports Hub Library. There are activities for young and old, so head down with your family and friends in support of Giving Week 2018!
