"Donation Friendly" Websites (2009)

There is potential for fundraising online as most households in Singapore have access to the internet. Fundraisers who apply donation-friendly practices on their websites will be better placed to raise funds online.

Health (2009)

Health care goes beyond hospitals and doctors, important as they are. It also involves people staying healthy for as long as possible, how to ensure proper care when people fall sick and how to die well.

Children and Youths (2009)

Children and youth are generally part of a system including their family, peer group, school and neighbourhood. What happens within the system would impact children. Some children and youth face growing pains. For example, they may need help coping with home and school, arising perhaps from issues with parenting styles, inadequate care from parents (which may arise from marital difficulties or single parenthood, and financial difficulties) or bullying in school. Others may, due to family circumstances or because of learning difficulties, find it hard to cope with school.

Families and Family Service Centres (2009)

Families in Singapore may face one or more issues, sometimes at the same time. For example, a child or youth in a family may have issues with parenting styles or even inadequate care from parents. An adult may have to deal with work and family responsibilities including parenting and caring for elderly parents and in-laws, and marital difficulties or single parenthood, and financial difficulties. Family issues may be compounded when families are re-constituted, become transnational (eg spouse works overseas), "sandwiched", or have family members who are born or become ill or disabled.

Individual Giving Survey (2008)

National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre (NVPC)’s Individual Giving Survey 2008 found that public confidence in charities has grown post-2006 (the year that saw controversies involving some charities). NVPC first studied public confidence in charities in its 2006 survey. The 2008 survey found that 40% of respondents had “above moderate to complete confidence” in charities, up from 28% in the 2006 survey.

Volunteerism in Singapore went above 16% for the first time, from 15.5% in 2006 to 16.9% in 2008. While the volunteer rate has risen, the total number of volunteer hours fell to 45 million hours in 2008 compared to 49 million hours in 2006.

Donor Management System: A Guide for Non-profit Organisations (2008)

Non-profit Organisations (NPOs) in Singapore face many challenges, including increased scrutiny from donors. It would help NPOs to develop a sustainable and preferably diversified fundraising programme rather than depend solely on traditional funders or the founders' generosity. The Donor Management System (DMS) framework aims to help NPOs by giving:

- A starting point for meaningful discussions with Board, management and staff for developing a donor-centric fundraising approach
- Direction on fundraising and donor management, thus simplifying the decision-making process
- A "checklist" that helps fundraisers and donor managers address key aspects of donor management
- Practical approaches and processes for use in real-world donor management projects.

Engaging Ad Hoc Volunteers: A Guide for Non-profit Organisation (2008)

Engaging Ad Hoc Volunteers: A Guide for Non-profit Organisations (NPOs) shows how leading NPOs have benefited from the meaningful engagement of ad hoc volunteers. More people today prefer to volunteer on an ad hoc basis, rather than take on long-term commitments. With ad hoc volunteers, NPOs may be able to engage people with general and specialist skills that may otherwise not be available. Working alongside regular volunteers and staff, ad hoc volunteers can help to get more work done, more quickly and effectively. This publication provides NPOs with ideas on how to engage ad hoc volunteers.

Barriers to Effective Volunteer Management (2007)

NVPC's individual giving surveys over the years show that the proportion of former volunteers has been higher than the proportion of current volunteers. NVPC's study of IPCs has found that lack of volunteer commitment is a top issue. The recently-launched Code of Governance also sets out the principle that charities should have human resource policies for volunteers. To help address these volunteer management issues, NVPC is releasing its first-ever study on barriers to effective volunteer management.

Value of Volunteerism (2004)

NVPC estimated that nationally, in 2004, total annual volunteering hours was 35 million hours. The estimated financial value of total volunteer time was S$746 million.

NVPC’s 2003 study of 24 organisations that engaged volunteers found that for 75% of the organisations surveyed, every $1 invested in volunteers yielded a return that covered the $1 to over four times the investment. There were also non-economic benefits. For example, over 80% of volunteers experienced a sense of achievement from volunteerism.

More details of study are available in NVPC’s publication - The State of Giving

Individual Giving Survey (2004)

Singapore's volunteerism rate stayed steady against a background of SARS and hard economic knocks. The findings of the biennial National Volunteerism Survey were released at the National Volunteer & Philanthropy Conference on 27 and 28 July, 2004. The study included 12 months of preparation prior to the start of field work between April and June 2004, straddling the start of Singapore's face-off with SARS and the nation's subsequent recovery.

The Essential Guide to a Volunteer Management System (2001)

Volunteer management is a very wide topic. There are different levels of involvement in volunteer management, from programme directing to volunteer managing and coordinating. Each level involves different functions and they are all crucial to the success of volunteer programmes.

The Essential Guide to a Volunteer Management System is written from the perpective of helping an organisation start its volunteer management system (VMS); those who already have such a system in place will also find use for it.

Volunteer managers and coordinators, and all those who work directly with volunteers and coordinate the day-to-day activities of the volunteers will find this guide a useful tool in their work.
