Leadership Development (Programme Lead)

In line with its vision, the Centre for Non-Profit Leadership (CNPL) is expanding in the area of building strategic partnerships with a variety of non-profit organizations for deeper, more impactful and sustainable relationships. CNPL is the leadership consulting arm of NVPC which focuses on helping the non-profit sector create a leadership pipeline and build effective boards. 

The successful candidate will work with boards, executive directors and senior management teams to drive leadership transformation and organizational improvement efforts in these strategic accounts that will create significant value.

The position requires involvement in all stages of account management and program management. Account management includes working closely with target NPOs, assisting in evaluating and scoping opportunities, building a value addition/improvement plan and being key facilitators of support resource identification and deployment.  Program management includes program development and deployment, market segmentation and partner management. In addition, the role involves keeping key stakeholders informed of progress or hurdles.

Duties and Responsibilities

Account Management

  1. Manage and support identified/assigned accounts/NPOs
  2. Understand and identify NPO leadership development needs
  3. Develop strong working relationships at executive levels to maximize the success of strategic partnerships and make them excellent references for CNPL
  4. Leverage the internal resources of CNPL (e.g. board match, training, assessments and other tools, knowledge centre, CNPL board member network and expertise, etc.) to meet specific NPO needs
  5. Leverage CNPL expert partner organizations, and/or individuals in bringing resources (e.g. volunteers, specialists, consultants, trainers, coaches, mentors, etc) to meet NPO needs)
  6. Assist NPOs in developing measures of leadership effectiveness
  7. Lead proposal writing process, which includes developing key messages, identifying scope, estimating budgets, defining timelines, and consolidating deliverables from CNPL team members
  8. Capture and create intellectual capital through case studies or methodologies that can be used by CNPL members and disseminated via the Knowledge Centre
  9. Maintain, consolidate and monitor feedback and customer satisfaction levels for NPO engagements and key account activities
  10. Maintain the quality of information concerning NPOs and updating in CNPL’s knowledge management systems in a timely fashion
  11. Represent CNPL to stakeholders; acting as an ambassador for the organization
  12. Achieve tangible results and positive change over time at the selected NPOs that he/she is managing

Program Management

  1. Develop annual deployment plan for all assigned programs
  2. Identify and define NPO segments and their leadership development needs
  3. Design and develop new leadership development programs based on sector wide needs
  4. Identify best practices and research to ensure ongoing innovation of programs
  5. Leverage Expert Partner Organizations and CNPL resources to design and develop programs to meet NPO sector needs
  6. Plan the implementation of activities and events, material production and distribution, and other resources to ensure that training programs are managed within authorized budgets
  7. Evaluate and implement diagnostic tools required for needs analysis and instructional design
  8. Develop and implement ‘train-the-trainer’ programs to support skills based volunteers in their delivery of CNPL solutions
  9. Develop and implement alumni engagement programs to support CNPL’s strategic plan as well as the goals of each leadership development program.
  10. Consolidate feedback, analyze metrics and develop recommendations to support high standards of delivery among the skills based volunteers
  11. Review, maintain and update SOP for all programs
  12. Facilitate program reviews with management to measure and monitor impact, effectiveness and progress against key metrics


  • At least a Bachelor’s degree with minimum 5 years of relevant working experience, i.e. Human Resources/Learning and Development or Non Profit Organizations Account/Project Management
  • At least 3 years of work experience in a team leader or project manager role
  • Strong people, teamwork and communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Customer, results and quality focus with a good business acumen
  • Analytical with good planning and organization as well as resource management skills
  • Adaptable and believes in continuous learning
  • Takes initiative and follows up on tasks
  • Good decision making skills
  • Possesses knowledge of, and not limited to, Instructional Design and Delivery, Coaching and Facilitation, Performance Analysis and Planning, Learning Technologies, Change/Transition Management, Evaluating Learning Impact
